What's The Frequency Kenneth?!??!???!!!!

It just struck me that two of my very favorite songs are by REM.  However, I would not consider myself to be an REM fan.  An ex once regaled me with stories of Michael Stipe and his hugeass heroin addiction which cultimated with him shooting up on stage.  So despite the fact that I looooove these two songs and that REM was smart enough to hire Alton Brown before he was Alton Brown.........still not a fan.  So at what point do I own it?  Do I need to find yet another song that resonates with me in the way that the afore mentioned two, do?   Do I own the fact that I love the cinematography in REM's late 80's-early 90's videos that most certainly was the handy work of one Alton Brown?  Tbh, the early fans of REM were quite arrogant.  I never wanted to be one of them and I guess i'm still rebelling now.  These are the same assholes who now refuse to own a tv and are streaming everything and eating gluten free for no reason other than they think they should be. Sometimes, I think it's better to leave the past in the past.  Donnie Iris, Oh Lea, the video is one of those things best never viewed again.  That said, I loooove this song.  It makes me oddly nostalgic for a time that I was not old enough experience in the way I would've liked.  I grew up on oldies and some shin kickin' country.  Living in the country, we didn't get Detroit market radio stations at home.  We got the flint market stations which were greatly different.  Detroit radio had already split into the same genres that it has today.  Flint was a hodgepodge of genres all on one station which I loved.  So I was just as likely to hear this or Golden Earring as I was my beloved Duran Duran or even, Culture Club.  Flint was however very slow to pick up on any soul or r&b artists which is prolly why i have my huge crush on a lot of funk music from that time.  The only place I heard it was  aboard the Boblo boat.  Miss that boat!!!!!!!  I need to make a playlist for walking.  Before I start this semester, I need to be firmly entrenched in a walking program!
