Mirror, mirror on the wall. Tell me, mirror, what is wrong? Can it be my De La clothes? Or is it just my De La song?

I woke up in the middle of the night with this song on my mind.  There was a tie in song too.  But it escapes me now.

Sooo tired of being broke.  There must be a God b/c I just found a half a lb of thick sliced bacon in the freezer.  Score!  A jillion years ago as a single unwed mother I had this older friend who was the original crazy cat lady.  She was quite a crust old thing and rather odd.  Still, she was interesting and well read.  One day she described to me her dinner from the night before.  It sounded delightful and the next day I set out to make it for myself.  Apparently I wasn't listening fully and when I later told her what I made, she was aghast and repulsed.  I enjoyed it as did my son and it became quite the staple in our lives for years.  While I still love all of the components other than the ground beef.  I have not made it in at least a decade.  During the same freezer forage that brought me the bacon, I found some ground beef (yuck!). Since I am out of buns and will not eat ground beef on bread I spontaneously decided to bring back this retro delight.

Hamburger "Mess"

Ground beef cooked, crumbled, drained and cooled
Mayo
Salt
Pepper
Shredded Cheddar
Sour pickle spears sliced into chunks

Dump all of it in a bowl and mix

Chill for several hours

Eat as a cold entree, even better if you have Fritos Scoops
